Vinyl, Music & Film Memorabilia Auction

Auction: Saturday 5th November 2011

Auction Highlights

Music Memorabilia: I think the best place to start is with our Music Memorabilia section. Star lots are littered throughout this section ranging from the weird and wonderful in the form of John Lennon’s tooth to the artistic delights of John Squire (Stone Roses) and Paul Cannell (creator of Primal Scream artwork). The three original oil paintings for sale have come from the private collection of Alan McGee (ex-Creation boss and manager of the likes of Jesus & Mary Chain, Primal Scream and Oasis) along with some very interesting pieces of memorabilia and music history. A small sample includes the original signed management contract for Jesus & Mary Chain, the £1000 loan agreement which was used to set up Creation, personal gifts and letters of thanks from Labour party politicians (including Blair, Brown, Mowlam, Mandelson), limited edition signed prints from acclaimed rock photographers Jill Furmanovsky, Pennie Smith & Ian Dickson, gold discs, rare books and much more. We have also been tasked with selling a huge & comprehensive collection of Joy Division, New Order and Factory Records memorabilia and vinyl (which is so vast that we will be selling over the next two auctions). Memorabilia highlights include a signed original copy of the Ideal for Living EP, numerous items of Factory merchandise (including pin badges, stationery & memberships), rare JD and NO tickets along with photos and posters. As ever Beatles memorabilia is prominently featured with an unprecedented collection of signed Genesis Publications books for sale (we have 15 in total!). The majority come from the same collector and thus all have the same ltd edition number. Highlights include 3 copies of George Harrison ‘Songs’ (Vol.1 & 2 with 7” and Vol.1 with CD), George Harrison Live in Japan, 2 copies of John Lennon ‘Sometime in New York City’ along with other Beatles related titles. We also have a huge Jimi Hendrix collection of vinyl and memorabilia featured in the sale. Standout items of memorabilia include a signed autograph book page, 2 rare limited edition signed Gered Mankowitz prints and an excellent collection of books (including ‘Classic Hendrix’ Genesis book). Mr Alice Cooper and his band make a number of appearances at different stages in the catalogue. The collection is so comprehensive that we again have had to spread it over 2 auctions. Included in the sale are tickets, various signed items, posters, rare pieces of memorabilia and an excellent collection of photographs (some with negatives). It’s safe to say that any Alice Cooper collectors should make sure they do not miss this auction! Finally as always we have an excellent mix of autographs (to include Brian Jones, Robert Plant, Coldplay, Pulp, REM, Cure etc) and original posters (to include Led Zep, The Who, Beatles and Hendrix).

Vinyl: Our vinyl section does its very best not to be outdone with some absolute gems. Top of the list are not one, but two excellent ‘Stereo’ copies of Beatles Please Please Me on black & gold Parlophone label. We also have numerous other Beatles rarities including two Mono Black & Gold copies of Please Please Me, The Beatles MFSL remastered vinyl box set, a number of excellent individual copies of Beatles album along with some larger Beatles job lots. Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd rarities are also in the mix with a Turquoise 1st press Led Zep I, Dark Side of the Moon with solid blue triangle, various box sets (majority still sealed including Stones Master Recordings MFSL box, 16 SACD box and super rare Japanese SHMCD box) along with a complete collection of Led Zep albums on Quiex super vinyl from Classic Records. Stunning copies of Black Sabbath rarities on Vertigo Swirl (including Black Sabbath, Master of Reality (with poster!) and Vol.IV) are present along with some other rare Vertigo albums from the likes of Juicy Lucy, Warhorse, Rod Stewart and Magna Carta. An interesting and eclectic part of the vinyl section stems from the personal collection of Alan McGee and includes a number of rarities from the 70’s and 80’s including a large collection of punk & post punk bands. Creation Records artists also feature prominently and there are a number of promos and test pressings dotted through the collection. Over the next 2 auctions we will be selling virtually every Alice Cooper release on all formats (including demos, promos and private pressings) from a multitude of countries including rare Japanese, Thai, Yugoslavian, Argentinean pressings . Generally these are again in Ex condition having come from a devoted collector. As previously mentioned there are around 60 Factory Records, Joy Division and New Order vinyl lots with everything from original and early JD rarities, rare private pressings and test pressings through to New Order collections covering all their releases from a variety of countries. All are in fantastic condition! Finally there are some excellent Hendrix vinyl lots aswell as mixed lots of quality and rare vinyl to suit all tastes (with no crap included!!).

Film Memorabilia: Our Film section at the start of the auction has well over 50 lots of quality autographs from the world of TV and film. Particular lots of note include the autographs of Laurel & Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Monty Python, Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Judy Garland. We also have some nice collections of autographs from films such as James Bond, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of The Rings, The Avengers along with a variety of actors from horror films.
