Another Huge Bowie Success For Omega
March 13 2019
A telephone bidder from the UK took home a piece of music history at our Music Memorabilia sale of March 12th, spending a cool £49k (inc premium), for a fantastically rare reel to reel recording that included an acoustic version of David Bowie’s ‘Starman’. Press attention had reached a fever pitch just before the bidding started, with film crews from Channel 5 and ITV in place in the saleroom to record the reaction of vendor Kevin Hutchinson.
Bidding was strong across the sale, with a Rolling Stones ‘Ricky Tick’ poster achieving £13,000 on the hammer, a 1968 Doors / Jefferson Airplane poster taking £8000 on the hammer, a 18k Cartier dog tag owned by Elton John selling at £5,500, a novelty Sex Pistols silver disc hitting £2,800.
Auctioneer Paul Fairweather said “ A fantastic day for us, our vendors and buyers. We had some incredible items to sell and the prices achieved reflect that. It was fantastic to see Kevin’s reaction when the Bowie demo sold. We’ve worked hard for the result and it was very gratifying to see him so pleased. Now we look forward to our final sale of this financial year, which is shaping up to be just as exciting”
